Changing your lifestyle to accommodate your comprehensive weight loss goals can be a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. With a few small changes and new ways of thinking, you can ease yourself into healthy changes to keep those unwanted pounds off.
One issue many people struggle with is simply eating too much heavy, fat-latent foods. This can range from doughnuts, Fast Food and consuming two triple cheeseburgers and French fries, to fettuccine Alfredo, fried chicken, or cheesecake and ice cream. Whatever your weakness, overeating, especially if you're overeating many fattening foods, is an easy place to begin to change. Though completely cutting out many high fat foods would be ideal for your weight loss, making smaller, lighter portions of your favorite meals is a healthy start. If your weakness is breakfast sweets, then make homemade muffins instead of a sugary doughnut. Making a smaller portion of Alfredo and serving a larger side salad is a healthy alternative for dinner. Fruit makes a great substitute for dessert. Instead of ice cream, try some fresh orange slices or watermelon. Small changes can make a big difference.
If you're like many employees, the options you have available for lunch may not be diverse and healthy. If you are surrounded by unhealthy options and the hot dog vendor at the corner of the street, then try to pack your own lunch. Make a healthy sandwich or large salad for lunch at home the night before, with some fruit and sliced vegetables and not worry about having to settle on a hot dog for lunch. A sandwich on a pita or hummus can give your lunch an added healthy kick.
If you have a problem constantly eating all day long, and binging, then try to determine why you're binge eating. Normally there's a reason, a need, a void, that is being filled by food. Is there some emotional reason why you are turning towards food? Maybe it's easy to reach for a your comfort food instead of dealing with the stress of the moment. Learn and try to understand what is causing the binging and stop it at its' source. And for those situations where you do need to eat some food, keep some sliced vegetables or trail mix within arms length.
Finally, a stumbling block that many face is once the newness of their diet fades, their old poor habits come creeping back. Fortunately there are several steps to avoid slipping back to your old ways. Keeping track of your progress in diary can give you the incentive to stay on track. Joining a weight loss blog or losing weight with a partner allows you to vent your day-to-day frustrations and share your successes with others. Don't let yourself to get bogged down. Stay positive.
Don't give up. Stay focused on the prize and lose weight today!
