The Exclusion Criteria Of The Ibogaine Therapy

By Kristen Waller

A lot of the common medicines, therapies, and treatments available nowadays have been in existence for centuries. This includes the ibogaine therapy. There are surely lots of people who knows the advantages of using this treatment for their own illness. This particular illness refers to addiction, to be precise.

However, not all people can take up this treatment. There are those people who are not qualified nor suitable for the said treatment. If they insist on taking this treatment despite the fact that they are not qualified, then they will surely experience adverse side effects. This will then lead to the deterioration of their health.

First of all, people who are known to have a history of active neurological disorders and psychiatric disorders are not permitted to take this treatment. The examples of the said disorders are bipolar illness, psychosis, cerebellar dysfunction, major depression, organic brain disease, and dementia. This is due to the fact that the treatment is difficult to administer to such people.

The person will also be disqualified from taking this treatment if they have a score in the Beck Depression Inventory that is greater than or is equal to 24. The Beck Depression Inventory is a multiple choice report which is self-inventory. With this, one's severity of depression can be easily measured.

There might also be those patients who will require concomitant medications. They are disqualified from taking the treatment since this will only interfere with the evaluation of the medication. Examples of the concomitant medications are the neuroleptics, antidepressants, hypnotics, sedatives, anti-epileptic drugs, meperidine, and methadone.

Patients with a bad history in medications should be disqualified as well. It is very crucial for a qualified patient to not have a history of having sensitivity to this medication nor any adverse reaction to it. It is also important that they do not have any history of significant heart disease and myocardial infarction. Otherwise, their illness will only worsen.

Even those with hypertension can be eliminated from the list. It is a must to watch the blood pressure of the patient since those with a pulse greater than 120 beats per minute or less than 50 beats per minute cannot take this medication. It will be dangerous for them if they insist to take this medication if their blood pressure is not within the qualifications.

Those who have a disease in their kidneys or gastrointestinal system livers are not allowed for this too. It will be difficult to allow those people with abnormal conditions since this might compromise the functions of their systems. More than that, there is also the possibility that their metabolism or their excretion will be altered.

One should be extremely careful with the ibogaine therapy. Not everyone can benefit from the said treatment, after all. If he is not careful with the people who are taking the treatment, he is not only compromising their health but their life as well. He will only cause grief to people if he is not meticulous in who he administers the treatment the treatment to and how he does it.
